I had a query about cops appearing in races, particularly the race event, Silver Casino Loop, outside the eastern garage. Every time, like it's scripted, an FVPD Dodge Charger would be pursuing two street racers. They are the same every time: a Silver Six BMW M2 and a Cyan Nissan 350z. The pursuit doesn't stay on screen for very long and they continue further off the circuit. I have no idea why this happens, might indicate that police were planned to be a part of races? I can confirm the Dodge Charger has functioning AI, it can use PIT and tries to pin both racers, but it doesn't attempt to bust you. I followed them in my Crown Vic. Let me know what you think of this?

I did! The racer AI, on the other hand, is quite stupid and swerves out of control on the nearby bridge allowing itself to be pinned easily. After that, the pursuit just goes back up and down the bridge until the race ends. So if we were going to have cops getting involved in races, it seems unfinished and would need some work. I like the idea of the police trying to shutdown races, this has appeared in quite a few games (Hot Pursuit series, Rivals, MW'05, Carbon, MW 2012, NFS 2015, and more) so it seems like a good thing to have in 2019. In MW'05 we had a "police chance" for every race, and Carbon with zone heats. But for 2019 something like this would be even better, the police in full force during a race, how the cops trailer for Payback looked.
So I actually made a video on this topic to document this: (https://youtu.be/IarhSISfXFw)
In my opinion, this is what freeroam cops could've been, and it's a wasted opportunity to implement what happened in the previous NFS games as well as what will happen in Heat: Seamless transition between cops in races and a freeroam pursuit.
NFS Payback is long gone by now. The hopes riding on the Charger are more dead and buried than they've ever been, that's for sure. I've shifted my cop gameplay agenda to Heat for now, despite the confirmation that it will not be possible to play as a cop on launch, at least.
However, a greater threat takes precedence and is urgent. Something that isn't welcome in a NFS game to educated players like us, who have standards and were playing before the likes of Ghost and Criterion showed up: A damage bar/player health system in NFS Heat. If you haven't already checked out the Heat boards already, then I suggest you do, my own topic is there standing against the damage system with a strangely promising amount of success. Please do let me know if you think I should share it with EA HELP as a case?
Anyway, thank you for the help! Just thought I'd revisit an old thread.
