How do I choose a weekly trait in order to host a party?

If I've passed up forever the chance to host a birthday party, how on earth can I ever host a party of any description?

I know it’s 4 years later but

I am having this issue permanently. They want me to RETIRE or continue my stories with new household mates which I’m holding out until I make babies. 

I probably have no choice but to buy the household mates.
