What exactly is competitor mode and since it appear to only apply to the top difficulty levels seems like it's there to train people to adjust to online tactics rather than actual football tactics.
From the game play deep dive:
"This is a brand new way to play against the CPU AI that aims to replicate the play styles of some of the best FIFA Pro Players in the world. Competitor Mode gives the CPU AI a better understanding of skill moves, dribbling, spacing, tactics, and it will constantly look to create better scoring opportunities. You can expect aggressive passes, complex skill moves, and even a change of tactics and mentality if you are leading against them, for example."
So is this a mode that makes teams behave more realistically in accordance with real life tactics or how a pro FIFA player behaves. At first glance "CPU AI with better understanding of space and tactics" sounds amazing who wouldn't want more human like behavior but then you get to this part "aggressive passes, complex skill moves" As a strictly offline player how would having the CPU controlled team behave like a professional FIFA player enhance my experience. In real football you don't see people chaining together skills moves on a regular basis and what even is aggressive passing that sounds worrying honestly. Professionals play against other human beings and not the CPU. That's a totally different gameplay style than someone like me who spends 99% of their time playing career mode or Kick-Off against an AI. Having a more intelligent AI opponent is what a lot of the offline community wants but not at the expense of an realistic footballing experience.
