The luck inscription is by far the most coverted and most useless inscription in the game and it really ought to either be reworked or removed.
How the luck stat can be made a useful inscription
If we stick with the luck stat, it should be changed to not affect drop rate and rarity chance of loot in any way. Rather, it should affect all combat abilities that has a % chance of triggering.
Take the weapon "Thunderbold of Yvenia". It's inscription states the following : "Has a 33% chance to deal large electric damage."
The luck stat could raise this from a flat out 33% chance, to 50, 60 etc. Other weapons and components that have a "every 5th hit" etc, could have their flavor changed to 20% chance of detonating an explosion and luck would increase that chance. Thus making the luck stat something that is combat relevant instead of something that actively cripples your loadout by chasing the maximum luck of 90% to ensure you have the best possible chance of obtaining rare items.
Why the luck stat in it's current form is terrible
Luck as it is now makes rare items drop more often, up to a cap of 90. 90 does not mean it increases the dropchance of loot by 90%, but that it adds 90 to the loot chance of a given rarity item. This causes a lot of players to chose inferior items with luck instead of a more powerful counterpart. This is detrimental across the board since Anthem is a co-op experience where 4 people are cooperating to meet a goal. Worst case all four players have loaded up with luck, and are not even aware that any amount of luck past the 90 mark is useless and have severely cripled their loadouts causeing the Stronghold / Mission / Freeplay run to take significantly longer than necessary.
Just mentionned in a previous post that i was doubtful of the efficiency of this stat, because with a 230% Luck chance i'm still begging for some Legs...
90% is the cap ? How ? Why ? WTF ?
All players start out with a base of 100 points of luck. The maximum you can add while it still making a difference is 90 more points. It's all explained here by the Technical Director of Anthem : https://www.reddit.com/r/AnthemTheGame/comments/avjfyr/official_word_on_luck_from_the_technical_desi...
Yeah, but that isnt really clarifying anything substantial.
I mean what is the real trade off going with a lower threshold?
If you go with 60 instead of 90 how much lower chance of getting legendaries do you really have? 1%? 10%? 100%?
How can people create good builds when they have no clue what one of the inscriptions really do. Sure 90 is more than 0 but if the effective increase in chance of getting a legendary drop is only 1% between 0 and 90 then you might be better of maximizing damage to do runs faster. But if the drop chance goes from 5% to 20% then its a no brainer to run with luck.
I have tried multiple levels of luck, i am still at the same level i was over a month ago on my Main which is Storm.
over 90% of my drops are always Rare and Epic and when i get Legendaries (not very often) it is always weapons. I have 3 Truth of Tarsis and other weapons that are repeats.
It has been over a week since i received a Legendary so i honestly think the luck stat is just there to get players hopes up, lol
