Bioware – Here are some simple? suggestions to add more content in the short term
Right now the amount of content is shockingly thin. It basically consists of:
- 4 Strongholds - One of which (HoR) is basically a replay of a core mission.
- 3 Legendary Quests - One per faction\once per day. I didn't include the other 3 "faction" repeatable quests, b\c quite frankly they offer very little\any reason for a player to do them.
- 1 Legendary mission
- Free Play – Consisting of random Free Play events & some limited run incursion events, that are poorly communicated to your community.
So in total, there are like 9 things to do? I cannot understand why you haven't at least (while you are working on bigger forms of content) added some recurring\daily\weekly content into the game? It cannot be that hard to implement? Here are a few suggestions, please take a look at adding some (all?) of these to help diversify your endgame content for players.
Daily\Weekly Dungeons? You have approximately 12 dungeons spread around the Free Play map. Why aren't these being utilized? Why do you not have a daily dungeon for players to tackle? Seems like a no brainer? The content is literally already in the game, all you need to add is a way to accept the quest. How hard could that be?
Daily\Weekly Bounties? Again in Free Play, you already have "named" mobs for some of your events. Why not have a bounty on a certain named mob that players have to hunt for? You already have the content is already in the game, all you need is to add a way to accept the quest.
Daily\Weekly Incursion Event? Also in Free Play, again this is already existing content. You already have these events: Outlaw Outrage, Scar Incursion, There be Giants, Shaper Surge. However, they are so poorly implemented that most of your player base is probably unaware of when they are even happening. These should be changed to Daily\Weekly events and instead of showing up all over the map (and making it that much more difficult for players to complete necessary Free Play event challenges), they should be one larger event that takes place in a specific zone. This would also help draw players together in Free Play to it (especially if it was a daily event) and make it much less of a hassle for players to complete the regular Free Play random events. Again, all you need to add is a way to accept the quest.
Daily\Weekly Strider Defense Event? You already use Striders as a jump in waypoint, and you have a defend arcanist\strider event in the game. It would be nice\better? if each of the current strider waypoints were defended by Sentinels and players had to jump in and defend these portal points from enemies to keep them secure. Enemies could be random, you could even have 2-3 tied together so players had to jump\go from point to point to fend off attacks.
Defend Fort Tarsis Event? Again the area is already there, but you should be adding an event where players have to defend the outside of Fort Tarsis from attack. It could be Dominion, Scar or some Titans.
Provide a better way for players to accept ALL quests at once Instead of each faction having its own posting board to accept Legendary\Regular quests. These boards should be changed, so that each of board is the same quest hub, with all of the AVAILABLE quests on it. So instead of having to navigate your convoluted menu system or running to each faction hub to take a quest, a player could go to any of those spots and pick up ALL the quests. You could still keep the ability to do this via your menu system, but by better utilizing these boards, again, that are already in the game, you could make it easier for players to get all of the relevant quests available in one spot and MOST IMPORTANTLY you could actually INFORM your players what limited events are actually going on. These seem like simple additions, taking advantage of content already in the game, that could be implemented rather quickly? Adding a quest could be as simple as the text walls you already do for Legendary\Regular faction quests.
Second Phase: Expanding Content to add more diversity\Re-playability Once these were implemented, you could EXPAND on them to add even more diversity to this content. For example:
Dungeons - Right now each dungeon has a certain type of mob in it, but what if was random or changed weekly\monthly? Fighting the dominion in a certain space could be very different that facing an Ursix or Skorpions in that same space.
Bounties - Same kind of randomness, tracking down a Wolven Pack, or an Ursix, or Escari or a Brute\Wyvern pack. It would be great, down the road if named mobs had some unique abilites\features (looks?) that distinguished them more from your run of the mill mob. A simple? example comes to mind is a Wolven pack, with a mammoth wolven leading it with some unique\different attacks\defenses to it.
Incursion events - Right now incursion events have 3-4 phases in them? Down the road you could have these events vary between defending a specific area from an incursion, or attacking\rooting out an already dug in incursion in an area or eliminating a wave of attackers while protecting something? Lots of possibilities that are just variations on the same event Legendary Quests - You should always be adding new types of random events for Legendary\Regular quests (and Free Play events) every time you have an update to increase the diversity of these events. It would also be beneficial if the 3 events in Legendary\Regular quests were linked\themed together better, rather than just 3 random events thrown together other the guise of “Just one more thing”.
Strongholds - You could greatly improve stronghold re-playability by adding a secondary path\boss to them. An example I can think of is the Tyrant Mine - At the room where you fight off hoards of skorpions\defend the platform, and then the door opens. Well what if there were 2 doors and 1 "champion" enemy that dropped a key\way to open only one of those doors? One door would lead to the hive queen (like it does now) and the other would lead to a new boss (hive king or whatever)? Legendary Missions - Same kind of premise here, utilize the same content but mix\match mobs players face. An example is the Tarsis quest where you face a Titan and then fight off Dominion. What if it was 3-4 Ursix instead and then Outlaws or Scar?
A few other suggestions:
PORTALS - When scar\dominion\outlaw events happen they open portals to bring in mobs. Why isn't this an option for Players in Free Play? When a major event is happening, players in Free Play should have the option to portal in there. This would help steer players into tackling major events in Free Play together, which is your goal isn’t it, instead of 4 seperate lancers all doing thier own thing like 99% of the time now. Players would still have the option NOT to group up, but by offering an easy way for a player who joins into a session to jump into the action quickly you would likely get more players grouping up as a result
LOADOUTS – It may be unpopular opinion, but I don't like the recent change allowing players to change their loadout anywhere. I think instead you should have made it so that all the Striders in Free Play were forge hubs for a player to go and change their loadouts. Free Play should be the only place where you should have the option to switch out your loadout. Players should not be able to change their load out once they are in a Stronghold or in the middle of a mission. You prep accordingly and go. IMO, this was a QOL addition that while, nice to give your player base something, was an unnecessary solution for a problem in Free Play, that could have been better handled by adding a forge hub to Strider waypoints. Also, pocket portals as the lore\reasoning? is just a lame reason. Can we at least try for some sensible immersion?
