My x and y buttons stopped working on xbox 360 [ Edited ]

This started just about a week ago. I started a managerial career for Fifa 15 on the xbox 360. I'm playing on semi-pro and the game ignores my controller settings for switching players and won't allow me to use the X and Y buttons. Instead all the X and Y passes have been mapped to the A, which really limits the types of plays I'd like to do. Any help?

I'm on XB1 but I assume the solution would be the same on the 360.  Go into the main menu of FIFA, tab over to "customise", select "settings", select "controller settings", and you should be able to go back to the normal/classic settings that you're used to.
