My laptop is a HP pavilion dv5000 that crawled straight out of 2002 and runs on Windows XP. I have downloaded the Origin launcher, the Sims 4 demo and create-a-sim demo. The Origin launcher opens and works just fine, however neither sims games will open. Their window appears for a few seconds as if it will then promptly disappears.
Is this a solvable issue or is my laptop just not the right kind?

@alanalasagne from what i see, the laptop is powered by a Turion 64 CPU, which is a single core CPU (or in some cases, there is powered by an Intel Celeron, which again, is not fitted for Sims 4, as it is below the required frequency: 2.2GHz). You need at least a dual-core CPU to be able to play Sims 4. You may want consider changing the laptop, as it's really old for modern gaming.
A dxdiag would be helpful, as i could say exactly if there are any chances to play Sims 4 on that laptop or not. But looking at the two versions, the problems are with more than just the CPU. RAM and videocard also seem to be unadequate for the game. It's an over 10 years model, so i doubt that is fit for the today's games.
I do not work for EA and i am not associated with the company in any way. I am a player just like you, trying to help wherever i can.I will not answer to any unsolicited PM.
