I see the 'Restart Now. An update is available to Origin' or something to that effect message when I start Origin. When I click on 'Restart Now' as I always have to apply the update, I get an Origin window opening but nothing appears (see screenshot) and the application just locks up and refuses to function at that point. I have cleared Origin caches, reinstalled Origin to no avail.

@the-creative-pup If your issue persists after you have followed the steps from above then ensure that your Firewall and/or Antivirus are not blocking the connection. The easiest way would be adding an exception for the Origin Client to the exclusion list.Add firewall/antivirus exceptions for Origin and open the needed portshttp://help.ea.com/en/article/connection-issues-with-origin/#1
Add antivirus exclusions (exceptions) specific files Origin, folders Origin or file extensions origin.ex from scanning.
Restart your machine and check.

My Opinion is no more important or right than yours.I'm a gamer like you, trying to help you (i'm not an EA employee).

Close Origin
Delete temp files: open the Start Menu and type %temp% in the Search field or click in the Run option in the Start Menu and type %temp% in the Run field.Press Enter and a Temp folder should open. You can delete all files found in this folder, and if any files are in use, they can be skipped.
Restart your machine .
Run the setup file Origin with Admin rights http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-do-i-run-a-program-or-a-game-as-an-administrator/#2
NOTE if your issue persist ,perform a Clean Boot https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/FAQ/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/.

My firewall and anti-virus isn't blocking this. Origin has been able to update in the past with this same setup. It's obvious based on the number of complaints about this latest update that EA screwed up this latest update.

Make sure Time/Date is correctly set in your machine.
Clear DNS cache https://help.ea.com/en/help/pc/how-to-flush-dns-cache-for-windows/
Clear hosts file http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
Restart your machine.

I did the DNS clear, reset the hosts file and the date/time is fine. The exact same issue occurs.

It was the anti-virus. I uninstalled Origin, then tried to reinstall Origin after a reboot and I got the same blank screen. I then disabled my Adaware anti-virus, then attempted to reinstall Origin and it reinstalled like normal. So the issue was with Adaware. Weird since I never had this issue before. THANK YOU!!!!
