Never really known of an application that makes a system run hot like that, if so I'd think Steam's App would have more of a chance of doing it. Try testing your temperature before and after loading origin. If you see the temperature jump when you start Origin then you know Origins app is the culprit.
Also try removing it completly and reinstalling it.

I've never encountered anything like this before either, it's very strange.
Here are my system temp/power measurements before launching Origin:
60°C (min 57 max 61) power 4.1 watts.
And here they are a minute after launching Origin:
93°C (min 87 max 96) power 21.8 watts.
After exiting Origin temps go back to the pre-launch levels.
For comparison here are measurements taken while running a game (Skyrim) through Steam:
68°C (min 58 max 80) power 14.2 watts.
I tried uninstalling Origin, resetting, and reinstalling but the results were the same.

Has anyone found a solution? My son installed this on his surface pro 7 and when the app launches on startup, it immediately gets extremely hot, to the point it is uncomfortable to touch and would cause a low level burn if it was on his lap. I have to end the origin task and the temp issue resolves immediately.
Like you, he is not even in a game, it is just launched in the background at startup. I have also found that it prevents him from using his camera for some reason, so he has to kill the app to use skype or teams.
