Mass Effect 2 keeps crashing or timing out

Mass Effect 2 keeps crashing or timing out. It's getting quite annoying! Any idea's?

Go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin / Origin Games -Mass Effect 2 /  bin 32/ -right click on Mass Effect 2 (Application)-click Properties/ Compatibility-run this program compatibility in WINDOWS XP SP 3-then check the "RUN THIS PROGRAM AS ADMINISTRATOR"

Restart your machine .

Go in Origin/ My Game Library-right click on game icon-select Repair

Thanks for the feed back. Im running win 8.1 ,and have gotten thru the game 3 times now completely ,but this problem has just recently come up. Since this is now my 4th run thru the game , you can tell I love it! Am waiting for the first ME price to come down ,as well as ME 3. But thank you for the feed back.Will try your suggestion.
