A Way Out, Friends Error?

I purchased "A Way Out"  I was told once I open the game Click the play online feature, then F to bring up the friends list.  When doing so the Friends list is empty,  I don't understand why... I've verified in the application I have a Friend added to my friend's list and who is currently online.  I'm attempting to invite him to the co-op for the gameplay to initialize an invite friend gameplay pass.
