It defaults to the C: Drive, but won't let me change it to any other. Just a blank window with the option to "select folder" but no alternatives.

I created a new folder on my D:\ drive called "EA Games", then I boot op EA Desktop, select the game that I want to download and then select D:\EA Games to download games in.
If you're having issues with setting a custom location for your games, then this might be a good way to go about it.

ea desktop wont let me change the install directory for my games and every time i try i get a blank file explorer. ive tried installing EA desktop in the hard drive i want games installed on but that also didnt fix the issue

When you click on Select Folder you should be able to choose an alternate location.
Please note you may need to create an empty folder called Origin on the destination drive and then choose that.
Thanks.

Hitting "select folder" does not work. We would have figured that out ourselves if it was that simple.

Can we please get an answer to this? My C:/ drive is dedicated to the OS and not nearly big enough to install games, which makes the EA installer completely useless to me. I can't install the game I bought even with 1 TB of free space on my D:/ drive.

Agreed, we "should" be able top select an alternat location, however the field where you "would" be able to select an alternate drive or path is blank, nothing.
COme on @EA_Barry read the question correctly.

Are you trying to install the games through EA Desktop or Origin?

Having the same problem, you press if you press edit install location in EA play and it does nothing both in the settings and on specific games when you try to download them.
New name, new look, same great benefits: EA Access and Origin Access are now EA Play.
