windows won't let me update sims 4

★★★ Newbie

My laptop's been really buggy lately, and crashes constantly, so it may be a part of that. But so far when I've been trying to get the newest Sims 4 update, my laptop crashed the first two times, and now whenever I try to do it I get a message telling me exactly that "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WRusr.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc000012f." I tried to re download Origin and I got the exact same message. I have an appointment set up to try and fix my laptop, but it's not for a while. What should I do in the meantime?

Hi @SophiaTheKilljoy

Clear Origin cache and for this you get a perfectly detailed post from @EA_Nils >>http://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin/my-origin-will-not-update-my-sims-4/m-p/4721983#M163410

Restart your machine .

You need to perform a Clean Boot: http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

Spoiler
-you need to press the key combination: “Windows Key + R”;
In the “Run” window, type the message “msconfig” without quotes;
-you need to left click on the “OK” button;
Select “General” tab, from the toolbar and chose the feature called “ Selective startup”;
-uncheck the box found in the left of the message: “ Load startup items”;
Select “Service” tab, from the toolbar;
-check the box in the left of message: “Hide all Microsoft services”;
Left click on the “Disable all” button, found on the lower-right side of the window;
Left click on the “OK” button;
-a new message box will prompt on your display. Left click on the “Restart” button in order to restart your operating system.

NOTE save any open files and close all programs before restarting your computer.

 Run the setup file Origin with Admin rights  http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-do-i-run-a-program-or-a-game-as-an-administrator/#2

Go in Origin / My Games tab-right click on game icon Sims 4 select Repair Gameand then Check for Updates

 NOTE if your download stops or don't start you need to  checked in Origin Application Settings / Advanced / Safe Mod Downloading -checked-Enable Safe Mod Downloading and restart Origin.

And if you have Windows 10 and your issue ("C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WRusr.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.) persist  do that.
