how do i link my xbox account? [ Edited ]

So, I have been trying all day to link my Xbox one account to ea/origin, I have tried many different ways, the most popular one being to go to the origin client and go to friends and click "import friends" which, I do not have the option to "import friends" so are there any other ways I can link my account? I'd appreciate anything that might help, thank you
