Windows 10 cannot find Origin

★★★ Newbie

Hello everyone,

I encountered this problem after updating from win7 to win10. When attempting to launch Origin.exe I get the following error message:

"Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\Origin.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

I talked with the support and did a clean install of Origin (deleted program data and registry and all that) but the problem still persist. Now what I did to fix it temporarily is the following:

1- Go to your Origin.exe folder

2- Rename Origin.exe to something else i.e. "Originn.exe"

3- If Origin starts with downloading updates, change it back to "Origin.exe"

4- After finishing updates, rename to something else again.

I don't know what Windows 10 issue with some executable files, it is giving me the same problem, same error with Adobe Acrobat Reader when trying to open any .pdf file. Hope this helped

The problem caused by a missing debugger files Standard smile which in my case was "AutoReactivator.exe" from ASC

To fix that you should follow this

  • Execute "regedit"

Go to :

  • "Debugger"="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options"

Find this 4 values and delete them

  • OriginClientService.exe
  • OriginCrashReporter.exe
  • Origin.exe
  • OriginER.exe

Notice:  origin.exe may exist may not Standard smile don't freak out

I only had the Origin and Originer entries, but deleting them worked like a charm.

Thanks!
