Why do I need permission to open the inbox on my profile?

I don't know if I am missing something or I am just stupid???? Lols A possibility!!! But when I try to open my inbox on my profile it keeps showing me the following, can anyone help me with this?

YOU EITHER HAVE TO LOG IN OR NEED PERMISSION TO SEE THIS PAGE.

Think that's a mistake?
