Origin crashes but games stay open, and possibly playable

I don’t know if anyone has come across this before as nothing comes up when searching for Origin Crash when Games remain open and unaffected.

Basically, my Sims 4 game became minimised as something on my laptop decided to create an error message and I noticed Origin was no longer open or minimised. I went to re-login with Sims 4 still open and Origin then proceeded to get stuck loading and crash. All the while, Sims 4 stayed open but minimised. Does anyone know how this is possible because in theory, any game running at the time should be force-quit when the client it’s running through crashes.

Although, I only say possibly playable as I didn’t test but the game music continued playing when I back into it before realising Origin had actually exited itself via a double take.

Also, feel free to move this to whatever category fits, probably tech issues or something. My laptop is Windows 10 btw.

Hey @Onyx-Citaro can I ask, what did the error message you see say?

Let's start by clearing the Origin Cache which you can do by following the steps below:

  1. Completely log out and close down Origin
  2. Hold down the Windows key and R
  3. Type in "%ProgramData%" (without quotes) and click OK
  4. Now open the Origin folder.
  5. Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for LocalContent (do not delete this one)
  6. Hold down the Windows key and R
  7. Type in "%AppData%" (without quotes) and click OK
  8. This will take you to a Roaming folder, which is located inside of AppData. Delete the Origin folder
  9. Click on the word "AppData" at the top of your window
  10. Open the Local folder here
  11. Delete the Origin folder listed here
  12. Restart your PC and log back into Origin

I can't remember what the Error Message said at all but I have since uninstalled the software that created it, which was Adobe Creative Cloud. It took me long enough to do that after cancelling my subscription.

As for the steps you suggested when deleting Origin Cache, I'm going to keep that in mind for future reference as it hasn't happened since and at the time, I just quite Sims and restarted my computer several times. I also somehow had an anti-virus software install itself so I took the time to wipe that and anything I didn't recognise that was probably associated from my laptop. I mainly just wanted to see if it was something that had been come across before and if anyone had worked out how it was happening in the first place. But thank you anyway.
