Now that EA is putting games back on Steam, please consider more GOG releases.

(please just pass this message along to the "higher-ups") I know GOG is small peanuts compared to Steam, and obviously GOG requires games (at least the single-player part) be client-free optionally (so there can't be the Origin requirement for single-player), but there's still quite a few people who would like to see more EA games on GOG, so please work on that sometime in the near future if possible.

(I recognize there are probably really messy legal complexities with some of these; I'm just trying to convey the great interest GOG users haveStandard smile

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us @tfishell.

Just so you are aware, it would not be possible for some of those games to be added by EA as they no longer have the rights to some titles such as the Dune and LOTR franchises.

@EA_Darko Thanks for responding. I understand that it'd be extremely unlikely for Dune 2+, LOTR, etc. to come to GOG and Origin; I thought maybe there could be an extremely tiny chance of "renewing" the license to publish the relevant games (like Dune 2000 or The Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth Anthology) if the opportunity presented itself. Mainly though I just wanted to encourage more EA games already on Steam to come to GOG or those not yet legally digitally available (Future Cop: LAPD, Hi-Octane, Beasts & Bumpkins, Theme Park World, etc.)

I'd love to see the Dune series brought back @tfishell.

I've had my eye on Blade Runner on GOG since it was released but holding off for the remaster. It's only been 23 years since I asked for the game for Christmas and didn't get it so hopefully, the wait will have been worth it.

@EA_Darko I didn't think about Blade Runner, but that is a Westwood game so I wonder about the legal situation there. I assume EA sold the code, art assets, etc. to Alcon at some point, or something like that. and I assume EA would still retain Westwood's Dune assets (though obviously not the Dune IP/"universe" itself). I know some of the Herbert Properties folks don't want the games re-released sadly, but with the new movie coming out, it would be the best time for something to happen

It's quite common for assets to be lost @tfishell. Blade Runner is an example of this, the assets are lost and they believe they were left behind or misplaced during a studio move. It was Nightdive Studios who reversed engineered the code for BR getting it able to run on modern tech again.

@EA_Darko that's true. I meant that, despite the assets being lost, EA still owned the rights to the completed game that Westwood created, right? So the rights to the finished product must have been sold/transferred to Alcon at some point? Or maybe it's more complex than that. (also I think it was actually the ScummVM team who reversed engineered the code or, at least for the original re-release on GOG since ScummVM is running the game)

As @tfishell told there is a lot of old school gamers interested in this games. I can second that taking myself as example at least. Wink

Adding my support to see more EA games on GOG, be great to see classics like Need for Speed, Classic battlefields & Medal of Honour, Mass Effect & more Dragon Age on the site, would buy them so I can have a DRM free copy easily.
