How to save family on Sims 4

Hi!

I've played sims 4 for a couple of years now, but haven't played it in a while until yesterday. I made a family and a house and saved the game before exiting the game. The next time i went to play sims 4 the family was nowhere to be found. I made a new family and made a house. I saved the family and exited the game. The same thing happened. The progress of the game will not be saved and I have no idea why? I have lost all of the other families that I've spent years working on. I can't find them anywhere. I have space left on my computer so that's not the issue. Can someone please help me with this? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
