Why is this? This morning I was trying create a new case but the live chat window wouldn't open and when I tried to create another case after that, the live chat option was unavailable- I could only get a call from EA as an option which I don't want. I can't even resume the case as I can't live chat there either.

Could you check if you're still unable to create a new live chat case on EA Help?
Your previous one indeed got stuck and it might have blocked the system - apologies for that However, it got automatically closed right now, which should allow you to create a new one simply by following the steps from this article.
