Can't add friend

I can't add any friends to my friends lists nor can they add me. Despite this i get updates on what they're doing on my Mass Effect 3, so something is happening.

What exactly happens when you try to add them or they you? Do you get any errors?

no, no errors. They just simply don't add.

Have both of you exited Origin and logged back in since trying? Also to be on the safe side, please make either of you don't already have 100 friends.

yes, none of us have 100 friends (I can't even get 1 friend) and we have tried exiting and re-entering origin several times.

After logging out, you can try to reset your hosts file and then log in again.

I tried it, didn't work.
