Dragon of Age: Origins does't respond to any controls

I recently purchased this gave via Steam. It gets to the start screen but no controls work to access the menu or start the game. I have tried an Xbox One controller, keyboard and mouse.

I'm sorry to hear about your issue with the controls in DAO 

Can I ask if you've tried to to perform a clean boot and then launch the game? It would confirm if there's any software that prevents your controllers from working correctly.
