i know it's late for that but for new users playing on windows 10 , windows defender has  this rasomware protection that denied DAI to read files in the directory if you make the program an exception the game will be fine and your save data will be read again .

@CLAVARONE this fixed the issue for me. The RansomWare feature is located on the Virus and treat protection screen. For those who need to know.
