Game won't launch after changing to full screen mode [ Edited ]

After I changed my preferred display method to "Fullscreen" in game, when trying to launch it again, it briefly opens in windowed mode, then expands, followed by a black screen and then it crashes.  Is there a way to change the display method, such as from a .dll file to avoid this? (NOTE: I know that others are having issues with playing in full screen, but the key is that after changing the option, I can't open the game at all, meaning I'm unable to access the Options menu to even change it to windowed fullscreen)
