Hi,
I just solved the problem (I am using Avast) by add the game folder as a exception in the antivirus configuration.
Hope this help!

Also had the same issue and I'm currently using AVG. Adding the game under the exceptions list made the game playable.
For AVG, you'll find it under Menu (upper right corner beside minimize icon), Settings, General then Exceptions. Added game location (C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\*).
I hope this helps.

Same for me, I've even added the exceptions...tried a bunch...

Avast/AVG are by far the most common issue with the game starting, blackscreen and then closing. There are other programs that "hook" into the game that also causes issues, such as Teamspeak(13 I think), Some reports of Discord, a few other chat programs, intermittent reports of Fraps, and Afterburner as well as some other monitoring programs, RAZOR and STEEL series of mouse or keyboards monitoring program, and various other issues. The next down the list is computer under specs...not so common anymore with the game's age, but you still see some who come here trying to run it on Intel graphics, which doesn't work.
I don't believe I have seen an issue that turned out to be the game's fault doing this in a really really long time. I know a save that is corrupted will let you get about to the main menu and then die, but usually it doesn't do the blackscreen and die.
If you are having this issue, then I would do a clean boot, which is to boot the computer using a special boot process that eliminates most programs from loading and checking to see if it loads. You may also want to see if you have any of the programs I listed and disable them to see if the game works.
If none of these work, then please post a DXDiag file and we can look to see if anything stands out.

I tried turning off all programs except Origin, did the clean boot, added Origin, Origin's folder, and DA:I's folder to my Avast's list. Absolutely no dice. I installed and played Mass Effect 3 and Star Wars Battlefront, both worked. The trial version of Inquisition also works just fine. The full game is nonfunctional.

Avast is almost assuredly the problem here.
What happens if you completely uninstall Avast?
Reinstall it if that doesn't solve the problem.
Get another a/v program if it does. :eahigh_file:

Yup, got rid of Avast and it works like a charm

Generally speaking, the mistake people make with Avast and AVG in putting in the exceptions, is that there are two different lists of exceptions for the Anti-virus program. The first is a scanning list, which simply tells AV to not scan the files for viruses and otherwise do what it normally would do for programs. This means when a "conflicting program" such as DAI tries to run, it stops it. The other list is a global exception list, which means the AV doesn't scan, look at, or in any way impair the use of that program. Generally if you get DAI, Origin and DAI saves files on the global list, you are good to go. Yes there are exceptions to this, but generally speaking, it works.
