No Choice Wheel? DA2

I'm playing Dragon Age 2 and for some reason, the choices aren't appearing on my screen. For example, when faced with a dialogue option, I should see a circle that lets me decide what type of answer I want to give. It's not appearing for me. I can still press numbers to prompt conversation, but I have no way of knowing what type of answer it will give. 

Any advice would be appreciated.

Has it always behaved this way, or is this a specific instance where it stopped working? (For instance, in DLC)

If this is the PC version, try either repairing (which is an option in Origin) or reinstalling if you use the disc version.
