Crash on startup "dragon age II has stopped working" - SOLVED

I've been talking to EA support for hours to multiple people and nothing has worked. I installed and am trying to run from Origin. Before the game even starts (I only get to see the little title card in the middle of the screen) I get an error message.
i've tried disabling uac, disabling firewall/antivirus, running as admin, using "repair" on origin, deleting all temp files, and installing directx 9. I cannot get it to run. the only thing I havent done is uninstall it. No one on support has suggested it so I didn't know whether to bother. Anyway here's my system info

 - Windows Vista
- Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU
- NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

- 4.00 GB RAM

please help me. I was really hoping to play DA2 before inquisition comes out

EDIT: solved problem
probably obvious to anyone who knows anything about computers or googling stuff but i changed which directx is used

for anyone really tech stupid (like me) having this same problem try this

>download directx 9 if you don't have it already (link to safe dl here)
once installed go to
>computer
> C: drive
> program files
> Origin games (only if downloaded through origin, naturally)
> Dragon Age II
> bin_ship
open DragonAge2Config.exe
go to video settings (left hand menu)
change renderer to directx 9
