You need a DX11 capable GPU to play Crysis 3

Well, I have read everyone's post but have not seen too much on this one. Have Nvidia GTX 690 and receive the error message, "You need a DX11 capable GPU to play Crysis 3. Game runs fine on laptop but not my desktop..Latest drivers installed (320 Beta) and everything else in comp is over the top. Any ideas folks?

Hello,

Yes, that appears to be the case. What I finally did to rectify problem was use Driver Cleaner to manually remove all Nvidia drivers, change the new download directory to C: drive instead of G: drive. Rebooted then loaded fresh drivers from Nvidia site, used Beta 320.18. All went well and Crysis now works flawlessly. Thanks to all that helped and participated in this thread!

Same as always.  Something is rotten in Denmark.  You have corrupted files in one of three things:  the graphics drivers, DirectX, or the game itself.

FYI, your DxDiag report will tell you some of what you need to know, but no one will try to read one of those after its formatting is stripped out.

(EDITED)  Note:  Personally, I can't read the bottom half anyway, where formatting is rudimentary, at best, and the text starts swimming around like alphabet soup for some reason (my vision correction?)

Cut a DxDiag down in half to attach it to a message, and don't paste it in a Word Processor as an intermediate stage.  Use a text editor like Notepad.

Sooo, what would your next step be? I have un-installed all Nvidia drivers and re-installed fresh gpu drivers. I have ran the game repair in Origin and moved to another drive, same issue. The last thing I have not tried is to correct corrupted DirectX files. I have downloaded DirectX files from Microsoft, but issue is still unresolved. Bout running out of options here.

I have the same problem, and have also done everything you have done to try and fix it. But i have also noticed while everything else says i have and i am running DirectX, my DDI Version, shown in dxdiag, is saying i'm using 9Ex instead of 11. Is this the same for you? because i'm fairly sure this is what's causing the error for me.

Hi,

Please reply back with your DirectX report so we can have a view at the drivers and hardware. You can find a small "How To" here: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Graphic-Issues/How-To-Reporting-graphical-issues/m-p/634584#U634584

Thanks.

Re: You need a DX11 capable GPU to play Crysis 3

★ Apprentice

One common cause of this has been onboard graphics cards messing things up. If you have one, C3 seems to select it, rather than the dedicated one by default. You'll need to disable it from your BIOS to play. Assuming that's what's causing the issue.

Hi mitchellhaz95,

It looks like there might be something wrong with the current installation of your graphics card driver or DirectX. According to your DxDiag report your computer/graphics card is only capable of running DirectX 9.0c applications (even though, hardware-wise, it's capable of running DirectX 11): DDI Version: 9Ex

I would suggest completely re-installing the latest non-beta graphics card driver and the DirectX version that came with the game:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Crysis 3\__Installer\directx\redist\DXSETUP.exe

I hope that helps, please let us know.

Hi onehitwonder2,

Please see my post above, it's the same in your case. There seems to be something wrong with either your graphics card driver or DirectX, also, please make sure that all available Windows Updates are installed.

Let us know how it goes, thanks.
