Research points for killing enemy units

I have a question. Do I earn extra points for directly killing enemy units or will I get all available research points when Contruction Place?

I can not say exactly what the amounts are because that would need a lot of testing... BUT I do still gain research points when attacking an enemy and only destroying some of their troops/defenses.  I also gain RP when all I have left to do is destroy their Construction Yard because all the defenses are gone.
