Got Origin Access last night. Can't play this or ANY of the CnC games in the anniversary edition from Origin. No game I install will load, at all. There's no error message, just simply won't load any of the games out of that pack.
Running on Win 10.

Here is how I managed to get it to run on Windows 10
1. Install Generals and then Zero Hour using original disc copy (Non Origin).
2. Install V1.04 patch for Zero Hour.
3. Add no CD crack.
4. Change compatibility for all users to the following:
Run in Windows XP (service pack 3)
Overide high DPI scaling for application
Run this program as an admin
5. Go to C:\Users\YOU\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data
6. Create a text document and name options.ini or edit if already there
7. Add the following to options.ini
AntiAliasing = 0
DrawScrollAnchor =
FirewallBehavior = 0
GameSpyIPAddress = (Add own IP)
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = (Add own IP)
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = false
MoveScrollAnchor = 0
MusicVolume = 61
Resolution = 1920 1080 (set this to your resolution if not 1080p)
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 58
SFXVolume = 53
ScrollFactor = 60
SendDelay = no
StaticGameLOD = lOW
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
VoiceVolume = 70
8. Right click .exe and run as administrator

I fix this trash problem by uninstalling it, reinstall it on Local Drive not in the Local Drive (C) which is there you can locate the windows files, main default installation by games, etc, Patching it to 1.04 and by creating a "Options.ini" in Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data, located in C:\Users\your pc name\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data. Make sure to run it in Administration Mode, and set the compatibility to Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or 3) but mine run very well without this.
Options.ini (modify if you want)
AntiAliasing = 0
BuildingOcclusion = yes
DrawScrollAnchor =
DynamicLOD = no
ExtraAnimations = yes
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
HeatEffects = yes
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = false
MaxParticleCount = 5000
MoveScrollAnchor =
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 1366 768
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
ScrollFactor = 50
SendDelay = no
ShowSoftWaterEdge = yes
ShowTrees = yes
StaticGameLOD = Custom
TextureReduction = 0
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseCloudMap = yes
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
UseLightMap = yes
UseShadowDecals = yes
UseShadowVolumes = yes
VoiceVolume = 70
I tried to install this on the default installation, it works, the patch works, but when I install the ShochWave mod by ShrProductions, the crash appeared, I then remembered that it has to be installed on the other drive or something, after installing to the Local Drive the problem got fixed. Also when you open a Mod Launcher for example a ShockWave mod Launcher for C&C, Run it Always in Administration Mode.
Hope it works

The error message I get is that the software is unable to see the cd drive. Therefore, the game will not load.
Is there something I can do to get the software to see the cd drive?

Um. Are you playing the game from CD? Most of these discussions are about the Origin digital download version.
The problem with using CDs is that the CD copy protection used on these older games is blocked by Windows on an OS level nowadays...
