New planets crash the game on El Capitan

Spore won't let me make new planets, and it also has the BAD_DATA thing with names. I'm on Mac OS El Capitan and I've had this problem since last year and support hasn't been any use. I've looked through answers here but most of them are for windows or are deleted.
