Are Spore servers shut down permanently?

Are Spore Servers shut down permanently? I've had the game for over a year now, made an EA and Spore online account, and literally every single time I've tried to login to Spore Servers, it says login has failed. I've checked the website multiple times and can't seem to find any new information. I feel like half the game is gone without online capabilities...ESPECIALLY the Galactic Adventures. I'm wondering whether it was worth buying.

NOPE

The Spore servers are online
- a login is possible
- as well you can play Spore GA
Make sure you install all patches

I have it on Steam. Does the updating work differently? I don't think it gave me any notifications. I also have Windows 7.
