This is a bug that’s been happening to me for over a year now. I play on an Xbox series X and while I’m creating a sim, suddenly the buttons on my controller will stop working. It functions enough to let me turn the sim and hover over different clothing options, but I can’t click on anything! The controller functions fine outside the game so I know the Xbox or controller aren’t the issue. It wouldn’t even let me back out of the "controller disconnected" screen! There have been multiple instances where I had to completely reset families I spent hours making since the only way to make it stop is restarting the game. And I know this just isn’t me since I saw some threads on other websites of people having the same issue. Fix this EA!!!

Hi there @SumVocaloidFreak your game version number should be 1.97.2.2300. You can find it by clicking on Sims 4 on your Xbox home screen with the button with 3 lines on it and going to Manage Game and Add-ons. You'll see your game version number in the top right hand corner of the screen, I'm attaching an image of an older version number for you to show you what I mean. Just to ensure your game is up to date.
If this happens to you in CAS again and you can't get out, click the X (home) button on your controller and that will help you leave CAS and return to your console home screen, although the Sims will still be stuck at the same point. I've had this happen and that's how I got out of it. I then power cycled my Xbox Series X. It did mean that I lost the work I'd done in CAS though unfortunately.
If you haven't carried out a power cycle before:
Turn off your Xbox with the power button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
Unplug the console's power cable to reset the power supply then wait at least 10 seconds.
Plug your power cable back in.
Press the Xbox power button on your console and switch it back on.
When you are back on your console home screen go to the icons at the top of the screen and My Games and Apps>Groups. Check the Quick Resume group and ensure Sims 4 isn't there. If it is, delete it from the Quick Resume group. You don't want it to do a Quick Resume, you need to load the game again fully.
Hope this helps.

While in CAS the buttons stop functioning. Toggling them back on with the View button doesn't work either.
What do you expect to see? I expect the buttons to keep functioning.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? On console-never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Unsure.
I've had occasional issues with the controls since patch 1.69 on Xbox Series S and then Xbox Series X. Some buttons like switching Sims in live mode for example stop working randomly and then work again a few minutes later. I also get the occasional freeze up in CAS. But this week the buttons stopped working completely in CAS, I could still use the sticks but the buttons did nothing. I power cycled my console and got back into my game and it was working. I'll keep an eye out for it happening again.
