Same issue here, I see the cut-scene for the mission start then boom desktop.

I noticed that it crashes for me whenever it tries to load me into the Yavin dogfight map as well

All drivers up to date running a 980ti, display is 5120x1440

edit: quick test confirms that ultrawide is the issue, if you run it in a standard aspect ratio yavin loads up fine

same issue, fleet training and campaign. Also on Ultrawide (5120x1440) 

since this seems to be a ultrawide issue i dont think we can expect a fix soonish..

Can confirm, switching to windowed mode and shrinking the window to a single monitor (1920x1080) loads the level... BUT, when the level is loaded and you drag the window back to full screen, *instant crash to desktop.  Looks EXACTLY like an issue related to aspect ratio.  Hopefully they'll fix it and widescreen players can get some joy.

EDIT:  Not all missions in Story mode crash.  Yavin seems to be one, but after that the next few missions worked fine at a wider aspect ratio.  Hope this helps.

I have an ultrawide screen that is crashing, and I changed if from ultrawide to 1920x1080 60htz, and it still crashed when trying to launch the game.

for me turning the detail of Voumetric to low fixed the issue.

sadly i'm not running Wide screen so this won't help me :'( i am in 4K though

@AvaFalseProphet This actually worked for me. I turned from Ultra Detail to Low and was able to complete the mission. Weird...will try to turn it back up for the following mission and see what happens.
