Wall/Room Tool Snapping Down

★★★ Novice

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.90.735.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? I have all Packs and Kits, except Moonlight Chic, Fashion Street, and Throwback Fit
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play Sims 4 in Windowed or Windowed Borderless. Then go into build mode and try to build a wall or a room.
What happens when the bug occurs? The wall/room tool will bug out and snap to a different direction.
What do you expect to see? The wall/room tool to function normally.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. This appeared after the most recent patch, that fixed the random aging bug.

I read different bug reports similar to the issue, but I don't know if mine is the same as theirs. As I have uninstalled the game several times, deleting the localthumbcache after repairing my game, even uninstalling origin. Yet this bug keeps occurring. I don't have any CC or Mods in my sims at the time of the bug. And the bug only occurs in windowed or borderless, not in fullscreen.

Hi @SnwySpirit

tested this and it works fine for me so, try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

  • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
  • Tray Folder
  • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
  • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
  • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
  • ConfigOverride, if you have your own configuration files.
  • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

Good Luck

@crinrict Thank you for offering help, however I did as described with the factory reset, repairing my game, and trying on a new clean save without any mods or cc, and the issue still persists. Thank you, though.

@SnwySpirit

I tested this in my game.  I tried building in all 3 screen modes and didn't have a problem with the tools jumping around.  Everything worked the same regardless of whether I was in fullscreen, windowed fullscreen or windowed.

What graphics settings are you using?  I run on Ultra with everything at the highest settings with Vsync off, uncompressed textures and post processing on.  It could be something to do with your settings so you might want to try changing them to see if the issue persists.

Hope this helps.

@CGrant56 I play on Ultra settings as well, and I tried out Low settings and the issue is still present. Thanks for the suggestion.
