So apparently, I can't have any railing upstairs.
I've tried all railings and different layouts.. But the sims will ONLY go up the stairs if there is no railing upstairs.... Looks super weird.....
Don't really think that counts as a solution though...
And the stairs will stay invisible... The sims returned visible at least

@Chillybunn and @nanahlucky I've merged your posts with the master bug thread on this issue. Feel free to click Me Too and add any other info you find relevant. There's also a workaround marked as the solution on the first page.

Is anyone aware if this is something that is being worked on with the next update that will be pushed out for Sims 4? This has been a constant issue as i also like to do the open staircase. We are currently using the work arounds coming up but it is a major frustration.
Like others we have tried multiple lots and have the same types of issues as others are posting about.

Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure
My Id is: JSimmer16 and the build is Selfsuficient ModernHouse
I've placed the staircase and after the first time with the problem, ives remover, everything that could be in front of it. also changed the chape of the stairs, do a U shared, and it didnt work neither. I dont know what else to do. I already tried everything and dont understand whats going on, ive decorated this house like every other ive done and never had this issue before...
The only thing it work was moving the staircase to the garagem just to test it, (here the floor is regular in all the rest of the house is a platform), and it worked fine. Could it be that the platform doesn't allow my sims to go up!? (or down)
and in one of my other lot "Central Square" thats happening as well and the staircase dont have any shape modification, but what is really bothering me here, is that in this lot, it was working just fine, and after installing the snowy espace it says that i can go up the staricase... but i already did it....
I would be gald if anyone would help.
Thanks

I have a theory about this. Since platforms were added to the game, an extra routing test had to be introduced to the programming "is there enough space beneath the ceiling to go to that spot?" If the stairs are outdoors, or count as outdoors, then the routing process knows not to bother checking. If the stairwell counts as an indoor room, the test runs. But if the ceiling has been removed entirely, the program tries to get the data about something that doesn't exist and returns Error. Any error condition in a routing algorithm can stop a sim routing. Just guessing

I have this issue as well, but the workarounds are not working with split level stairs. Sims cannot route onto or off of a platform level.

This bug is so annoying I don't dare to update my game..to see it breaking even more. It is not fixed in the patch, is it?
