@MzMelonz have you tried saving the residential lot to your library and then placing it again?

Edit: you could also try the bb.enablefreebuild cheat, it doesn't affect your console achievements using that cheat if you haven't used cheats before. It doesn't require testingcheats being used. It might make a difference particularly if you're having any problems editing the lot.

Or if all else fails you could create a small home for the family with the retail lot as their second home and lock all of the doors for household members only. If you haven't done that before, I do that a lot to get second homes for my Sim. You can have a little shop and a house but technically you don't need to. The essential items that you are supposed to have on a retail lot (I know it needs a cash register but can't remember what else is required) can just be stashed in a room in the basement and hidden out of the way. They will arrive at their first home after work/school if they attend either, but they can live at the retail lot home full time. They can't leave pets there though. But the pets can live there while the Sim is there.

Re: Residential Changes Back to Retail

★★ Guide

Same issue with rentals, but at least it's an easy fix (at least this is what worked for me.) Similar to what Amanda and simsplayer suggested:

Save the lot to your library as a Residential. Then, evict the family. The game might have set the lot type back to Retail, but that's fine. Go into Build Buy, set it back to Residential, and bulldoze it. After that, go back to the world map, open your library, and place the lot back down from there (be sure to double check that the lot type is residential before and after moving back in!) If that doesn't work, try Crin's method.

Thanks for your reply!

After coming back to the game the next day all is well again! The situation corrected itself.

A Rather Odd Occurance (Lot Conversion Bug)

★ Guide

I have personally experienced since the release of Life and Death less than 24 hours ago this bug, which is that when playing on a lot loaded from the "Library" over a generic lot it changes to a "Business Type" venue, even though my sims are currently living there, I have to basically evict (Sell Business) the sims in order to get control of my build and buy back.

I'm not 100% sure when this triggered, but I know the facts as they stand so I will try to relay them:

1. I crashed/froze (likely unrelated) after uploading a family and lot to gallery (this was the previous exit from the game)

2. I resumed playing a DIFFERENT save than the one I designed the family and lot in and procceded to place the lot with the "Lightbulb" button, then move in the family following that. The Lot type of the lot I "overwrote" was a Generic, it was actually a Bowling Alley Generic Lot i had setup for my game.

3. After playing for some time, I decided to buy a few new objects in the lot's build and buy, I noticed everything was too expensive, so I looked at my funds, to my surprise it was a fused overlay for a "Business" fund that had 2 different UIs merged into one (it looked like you should be able to tab between businesses and residental almost), but the funds remaining in the active display was `$1.

4. After Determining that something was wrong I proceeded to notice other abarrent behavior from the game including: "After 'Sell Business' and moving back into the lot the objects from my household inventory were teleported back to the various storage objects they were in but they had to be placed from the household inventory first." This meant that while I lost nothing it brings me to point 5.

5. After Selling the business the funds that the household's networth was, doubled, and I didn't have to rebuy the house to actually continue the household after selling the "Fake Business"

This is all very weird to me, and in my 28-some odd year experience of beta testing and various objective interactions with multiple types of software, I have to say I'm stumped as to what's going on.

I hope it's not a serious thing as this is my main save that was effected, but I don't know what happened exactly or if it's fully resolved :/

Hero
@LeissaMyst There are several threads on the topic.

I will probably need to make a master thread as there are many different scenarios

I've merged yours with the one most close to what you are seeing.

Good Luck

This will all help temporarily. Changing the types of lots is broken. After a while, a residential lot turns back into a public one, if it was by default. Rent too. I can't sell or change the type of rental lots on Tomarang.
