This symptom is same as following thread, but it seems trigger is different, I think. So I posted this.

We have never been able to move a household and have things in the storage containers (fridge, toy box, chests, DU chest.)  They will always disappear when you do that.  It's been happening since TS4 came out and not anything recent.  So, the work around is as you said, clear out all the containers and put the items in a sim's inventory or place them on the ground/floor or directly into the household inventory.  It happens because all those items are seen by the game as "owned" by the sims.  Moving breaks that connection if they are not in the sim's inventory or as separate items in the household inventory.  Even if you place them on the ground/floor, that connection gets lost, but it gets reestablished when you pick them up and place them in a sim's inventory.

Bookcases act a little different though for some reason.  If you move and leave the books in a bookcase behind, they will show up in the household inventory on the new lot although sometimes, they will disappear when you take them out of the household inventory and place them on the ground/floor.  If you go back to the old lot, the bookcases will be empty.

Hope this helps.

@CGrant56

Hi there

Thanks for the detailed explanation.
I didn't know this bug existed before the update for For Rent EP.
I always kept the furniture when I moved, but after the update for For Rent EP, I was no longer able to do that (here), so I started moving after manually putting the furniture in the household inventory, and that's when I noticed this bug.
Until now, books have never disappeared after moving to a new house, so I'll be careful. Thanks for the new information.
As you mentioned, this bug behaves as if the ownership of the object belongs to the game or the lot, not to the purchaser.
