Product: Apex Legends
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
AMD or Nvidia Model Number GTX 1080Ti
Enter RAM memory size in GB 32GB
What is your gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name? The_Tibber
Please provide your squad mates' gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name if possible.
Which Legend were you playing (if applicable)?
Which Legends were your squad mates using (if applicable)?
Where did the issue occur? In the lobby (waiting area before the match)
Which part of the map or menu were you in? If you don't remember the exact name, please describe the area or what you were trying to do in the menu. Keep the settings
What were you doing when the issue occurred? E.g. respawning a squad mate at a beacon, using an ability, a squad mate left the game. Restarting Apex Legends
Did your squad mates also experience the issue? I don't know
How many matches had you played in a row before the issue occurred? ~
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm)
How often does the bug occur? Rarely (0% - 9%)
How severe is your issue? Little to no impact to gameplay
What happens when the bug occurs? Origin and Apex fails to save settings when restarting the game/ launcher.
What should be happening instead? Saved settings should be loaded when opening Apex.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Enable Cloud storage in Origin and change settings in Apex. (You most likely need to have a poor connection in order to emulate this bug) When restarting Origin the settings will revert.

Similar issues/ titles on the forums:

"Game always starts in windowed/fullscreen/boarderless mode"

" X setting wont stay enabled/disabled"

Cause and effect:

Cloud storage function fails to upload new settings which causes the older settings to download/override the local/new settings in Apex.

This would make settings reset when restarting Apex Legends.

Edit: Origin Launcher has connection issues and fails upload setting changes properly.

User Solution:

Start off with uninstalling the origin launcher on its own.

Navigate here: C:\Users\"User"\Saved Games\Respawn\Apex

Delete the profile folder and go to the loacal folder.

Delete videoconfig.txt (video settings), settings.cfg (keybind settings) and previousgamestate.txt

Now a DNS flush:

  1. Hold down the Windows Key and press X.
  2. Click Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. When the command prompt opens, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
  4. Type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter.
  5. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
  6. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
  7. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
  8. Reboot your computer.

Clean temporary files:

Navigate to your dives location and right click your C: drive.

In properties click the disk cleanup and follows the prompts.

then wait for the clean to finish.

Install origin: https://www.origin.com/gbr/en-us/store/download

Open origin and go to the application settings in the top left under origin.

Go to the installs and saves tab, then disable cloud storage.

Run the game change the settings and restart the game.

Dev solution notes/ideas:

Something to detect local setting changes and prompt the user if they wish to use cloud settings. (if cloud is enabled)

Local settings are use by default and cloud settings are downloaded on request of the user.

User notes:

Flushing the DNS seems to have worked for me and cleaning my temp files.

I noticed this bug for me because settings kept reverting after restarting origin.

Notes for Mods:

I know since this issue is about Origin under further investigation but may we keep this here in order to help others browsing apex forums for similar issues please?

My case was different, my secondary HDD where I stored games suddenly died with my "Saved Games" (a Windows special) folder.

Then I reinstalled Apex on another drive and the game was unable to save config.

  • I fired "regedit"
  • Navigated to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders and then changed the value of "{4C5C32FF-BB9D-43B0-B5B4-2D72E54EAAA4}" to the new path.
  • Navigated to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders and set back "{4C5C32FF-BB9D-43b0-B5B4-2D72E54EAAA4}" to "%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games"

This time it saved config.

I had this problem as well but flushing my DNS and cleaning my temp files did not solve the problem for me.

I tried all the ideas here and even restarted several times. It still refuses to save my settings. I think the issue is actually the cloud service itself.

I was having this problem with model level setting. I had to go to GeForce experience and change it from there. It worked but it’s very limited. I’m still trying to get my muzzle flash turned off but I am unable to use videoconfig files like everyone else for some reason. If anyone has any idea why I’d love to know.
