I lost all of my save progress and data and gear

All of Anthems saved data is located on their Servers, you might have started a new pilot or deleted yours from their Servers.

On the main screen before entering the game when it asks you to there are extra options on the bottom right corner, make sure you're not just on another pilot by accident.

This actually started me over to being a first time player, so I don't even have the option to select a new pilot.  When I hit the main menu, it asks me to set the settings and goes into the first mission.

I'm going to uninstall and reinstall to see if that fixes it.
