[OPEN] [Mac] Sims cast weird shadows

[ Edited ]
★★★★★ Apprentice

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? Deutsch
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.47.49.1220
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All but My First Pet
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Watch Sims walking around indoors.
What happens when the bug occurs? Sims are followed by a weird shadow line.
What do you expect to see? A normal shadow, without the line.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

Ayo! I noticed a graphic issue while testing out Get Famous: My Sims cast a weird shadow when being indoors. It's like a line which shouldn't be there.

Could you take a look at it as well, @Bluebellflora? Maybe it's a Mac-specific problem.

My specs:

Model: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15', Mid 2014)
Operating System: OS X High Sierra 10.13.6
CPU: 2,5 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB RAM 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi @taradrew

have you tested this without any mods installed as well ?

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

  • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
  • Tray Folder
  • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
  • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
  • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
  • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

Happy Gaming

Re: Reflection Glare on Ground

I'm not seeing this in my game.  Definitely recommend following Crin's instructions, as it looks mod/CC related to me.

I am also having this issue, even after removing all my cc and following the "reset to factory settings without reinstalling" procedure and repairing the game, then starting a new save. From what I can tell it is only happening to Sims and pets while inside a building.

I'm having this problem and I also have a Mac but don't have Get Famous, so it could be you're right and it is a Mac-specific issue with the latest patch.

Re: Sims cast weird shadows

@puderosasims

Yes, this is happening in my game too. Good spot!

shadow

I tried in a couple of worlds, no CC, different lights, different windows, different floors, same thing. It always seems to be to the right of the Sim if you are viewing from the road side of the lot, either parallel to or at an angle. It only happens indoors.

Testing I've tried that doesn't fix it:

  • different worlds
  • different lights
  • different floors
  • different windows
  • toggling retina setting on/off

Testing I've tried that does fix it:

  • enabling laptop mode
  • changing the RenderShadowsEnabled value to false in the GraphicsRules.sgr file for Very High (my settings). This maintains the high settings I have in-game but just disables the shadow. Unfortunately I then had the pink flooring issue which for me was way worse!

Model: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
Operating System: macOS Mojave 10.14
CPU: 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB RAM 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB

All packs installed up to and including Get Famous

Thanks so much for tagging me Standard smile

@taradrew @leahr33

I've merged these two threads together as it appears to be a Mac issue.

Please could you both provide full specs. of your Mac to help with finding the cause? Instructions on how and what to provide here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612...

I was able to get rid of the shadows just by enabling laptop mode! Thank you so much 🥰
