Also, I'm going to add that you'd THINK surveying the fishing signs would complete this task, but it doesn't. Apparently fish aren't Ocean Wild LIfe

Ok, so with my mermaid, I discovered that 'survey ocean floor' does, in fact, complete the 'survey ocean wildlife' task.  The problem I'm having is that I've also received a task to 'Snorkel around Mua'Pelam' or however you spell it.  I know I can wait for another day to complete it.  Its odd to me that this wasn't thought of though.  Should be another way to complete this task as I get the message that says something about mermaids not lowering themselves to snorkel like a pittiful human. :P  I'm paraphrasing of course.

I can't complete the task no matter what, surveying the ocean floor doesn't complete the task for me.  It's not stopped my sim from progressing in the career, but between that and the task to snorkel (which mermaids cant do period) it's irritated my poor marine biologist mermaid.  I suppose the best way to go would be to do the other track, as the tasks are completely available for the new occult to finish.

That's a good point.  The other question is how can you monitor turtles when they pop up, as the flavor text suggests.

The Survey ocean floor work around is not a viable solution. I e tried this many times and it never counts for my mermaid.

Just got my mermaid to survey the ocean floor in the marine biologist track! I was able to advance to level 8 without having to complete the daily task. To complete the daily task, you have to be a level 8 Marine Biologist for the Survey Ocean Floor to show up as a option in order to complete the survey ocean wildlife task. It only works on the deep sea buoy

To add to this, my now mermaid sim is level 10 as a marine biologist and got the work-from-home task "Snorkel in Mua Pel'am" as well as taking 5 photos. She got about half her pay for taking the photos, but can't snorkel in that area.

Edit: found the diving buoy for Mua Pel'am. Tried surveying the ocean floor. Task to snorkel did not complete.

As others have said the red buoy lets you deep sea dive but you can’t do that until you level up to fisheries specialist. What worked for me is once my logic was to level 8 I worked from home for a day and that replaced the surveying ocean wildlife requirement. I sampled water and enthused about marine biology instead. Now the red buoy lets me deep dive so I can accomplish future ocean wildlife surveys.

Popping back in to add that for me, surveying the ocean floor doesn't fulfill the survey ocean wildlife thing.

My sim is a mermaid too. The red buoy doesn't show the option to survey ocean floor. Maybe this works for a higher skill or career level? I'm not sure.
