[OPEN] [CD] Pet cats can't use the litter boxes

2/9/24 and this is still an ongoing issue. This has been an issue in every game. Usually resetting the litterbox or cat would fix it; however, this time it didn't. I just started this game. Nothing is blocking the box. Resetting the box and the cat didn't work. Replacing the box with a new one didn't work.

Without fail, every single time I play with cats, they complain about the litterbox, get uncomfortable, then run away for a bit. It's really frustrating that it's been years without a fix.

@MrsShotgunPanda My Sims just adopted a stray cat in Brindleton Bay. First couple of days it was fine. Cat used the litterbox. Then I noticed the cat REALLY used the litterbox (was in it for a long time). I renovated the house and moved the litterbox outside on a deck. I saw the cat use it so I thought all was good. Then I saw the cat had a "what's wrong?" Interaction under "pet care". Asked cat what was wrong and cat was like I need the litterbox. Nothing was blocking it. The cat just couldn't use it anymore. Bought a new one and it wasn't until I put it in the middle of the room that the cat was able to use it.

I wonder what causes it to break? Also it sure would be nice if we could ask the cat to use the litterbox like we can call them to eat or lie on the pet bed.

Okay, so I have the selfcleaning litterbox (the one with lazer eyes) so there is nothing for my sim to clean, I even bought a secon box as I have two cat (kittens) and hoped that would help, it has not. The other cat has no problem using said litterbox(es). So I'm just confused an slightly annoyed by this.

It happened to me too as I was playing yesterday. Cat's icon was orange and I figured it was the litterbox thing. I went to build mode and clicked both of the self-cleaning litterboxes then I went back to live mode and cat was able to use them. I wonder why sometimes it is that easy to fix and other times it's harder.

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? The cat will use the Mr Tinkles Litter Box the first time, and then will refuse to use it everytime after even when its clean
What happens when the bug occurs? The cat gets an orange emotion, and when I ask what's wrong, they say '(name of cat) wants a nice clean litterbox!', despite the fact that it's there
What do you expect to see? Cat should use the litterbox when needed
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I've tried putting it in my inventory and dragging it back out, or moving it around my sims house but the cat refuses to use it due to it being too dirty (even tho its not, there's no option to clean it and visually there's no cat poo or flies on it)

So also been having the same issue, but just purchased our cat the cheapest litter tray and put it outside. She used it there…

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have a cat in your household and place a litter box on a floor that is not the first floor
What happens when the bug occurs? Cats will not autonomously use a litter box unless it is on the first floor of a house
What do you expect to see? A cat to use the litter box no matter what floor the box is on
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes, but have tried with them removed and still occurs
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No
