What happens when the bug occurs? Captain Whitaker is no longer a ghost dog.
What do you expect to see? Captain Whitaker as a ghost dog.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Updated my game to 1.110.265.1030

I think it may have something to do with the new ghost tab in CAS.

I can confirm that I see the same thing in my game after I updated, though I noticed that both he and Mayor Whiskers have a different icon on the left hand side of their household which has a message that 'dependents must be placed with a teen or older'.

Note Felix Psyded still appears as a ghost, so it's not affected all ghosts. 

I've not updated on my desktop and Captain Whitaker is a ghost there and doesn't have the new icon about being a dependent.

Note the non ghost dog picture is from game version PC: 1.110.265.1030 DX11 (i.e. post Oct 22 game update), game repaired after update, no mods/cc and I have all the packs and kits.

The problem is that after this update, only elder dogs can be ghosts, and Captain Whitaker is an adult. I’m having the same kind of issue with the ghost children from the wishing well because they have the 'death by laughter' trait. With the new update, children can only become ghosts if they have the 'death by fire' or 'death by drowning' traits. Super annoying, I hope they fix it quickly.

What do you expect to see? Capitan Whitaker as a ghost dog.

The reason for this bug could be that ghost death types are restricted based on age and occult.  Because dogs can only die of old age as elders. The new CAS restrictions for ghosts can’t keep Capitan Whitaker as a ghost because he is an adult, not an elder.

Child sims can also die by pufferfish in city living, but can’t become pufferfish ghosts do to the new update.

@Veemo8 would it be the case of opening a new report? I open one about the ghost kids from the wishing well not being ghosts anymore because kids can't have the 'death by laughter' trait...

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? If you have the Ghost Dog in your Manage Household, check if it still a ghost or a living dog
What happens when the bug occurs? Ghost Dog Whitaker becomes a living dog
What do you expect to see? Ghost Dog Whitaker should remain a ghost

Did anyone notice that the NPC ghost dog Whitaker is back to life after the recent patch? I attach the snapshot photo here as an example.

I don't think this is a bug but this definitely is weird considering latest patch is related to ghost fixes.

same here. i think its bc pets can only die of old age, so the ghost tag has been removed

Yep, can confirm in an unmodded game/save that Captain Whitaker is no longer a ghost since the 22 October Patch.  (Good for him I guess, but not for the lore of the game!)

Captain Whitaker is an Adult dog with the Death from Old Age trait. The most recent patch invalidates the trait by enforcing an age requirement of Elder, causing the trait and subsequent ghost status to be removed.

Because Captain Whitaker is a pre-existing Sim, the only workaround I'm aware of is to use the cheats testingcheats on then cas.fulleditmode, then you can go to Manage Households and edit the household he's in to make him an Elder and, if necessary, re-add the cause of death.
