I always just interpreted this interaction as "Can't go to bed while my toddler is awake and wandering around unsupervised." They do usually pput the toddler to bed then go to bed themselves if I don' t cancel the "pick up" interaction.

Nice to know that this issue was solved in a timely fashion considering the original post is from 2019 and it's now 2024 and still occurring.
