What seems to be happening is the game decides to route a sim to something behind the door, like a computer (fav target for sims), before it has decided if that sim can actually reach the object, then POOF MAGIC! when you're not in area that sim has been allowed to reach the target anyway with game being like -well screw that lock- and then when you look the sim is now locked behind the door which game now realises actually exists...
If you use a mod to lock the offending item eg computer from all other sims the lock "stays locked" to randoms, because that attracting item inside room is no longer overriding the door lock's power (or more precisely order of operation).
Note that this is a completely different issue besides the door locks deciding to just not work at all after sims have left the lot to go to work etc.

I have notice it with angry sims wanting to knock my garbage bin. I made a purposefully enclosure for my poor garbage bin outside and lock the door to only household members, turns out an npc came long after I locked the door, and got in to knock my garbage and was then stuck inside... I can of like this bug as for their naugthy behavior toward my garbage bin I can let them died of starvation lol.
I just want to clarify, when I say long after I locked the door, I mean like irl days, so I did that enclosure and lock it, then play in another households etc... and then few days later I go back into that family and this happen. Just so you guys dont think I did lock the gate, and a few hours sims the npc came and did that assuming they might have queued the action before I lock the gate...

My sims can get both in and out of locked doors.

I'm still having this issue. Now it seems that at least my sims are ignoring the locked doors. I had the parents' door locked except for the parents so that their toddler wouldn't come in the room to wake them up. Well, toddler was able to bypass the lock and woke mom up. I tried locking the door for everyone. Toddler was still able to walk through door as was mom. It's like the locks aren't being recognized. I don't know if it's the build I'm using, the fact I have multiple households or what. I have another save where I am playing in Tomarang to try out the new pack and the locks work there. I have no idea why it works sometimes and other times, sims can bypass it. It is annoying as I want rooms to be accessible to certain sims (or no sims) and they seem to ignore the locks.

I am also having this problem. I always lock my doors immediately to "household only" after I move someone in. Yesterday, my sims neighbors (San Myshuno world) keep coming in through the locked door but then won't leave. They don't really do anything either; they just stand in one spot glitching. Asking them to leave does nothing. Using MCCC to cheat them to leave does nothing. I only fixed it but switching out of the offending household, switching to the glitching Sim; the game alerts me that they're at the neighboring apartment, but then the game won't let me access her as it's not her apartment. I can't even click on the sim to tell her to go home or to travel off the lot, etc. I had to manually press the "M" key to travel her off the neighboring lot and only then did she go back home. Very, very frustrating.

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Sony Playstation 4
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Occasionally (10% - 49%)
What is your current game version number? Current version PS4 as of 1/20/24
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Too many to list off the top of my head
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Lock any sim out of any door, if the door is open from another sim going in or out, the sim that is “locked out” will automatically walk into the locked door and then be stuck because they can’t get back out
What happens when the bug occurs? Sims get locked in rooms they aren’t supposed to be allowed in, in the first place.
What do you expect to see? I expect sims to not be allowed to walk into rooms that are locked to them and then getting stuck.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? On console - never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure
Sims invite themselves into locked rooms and then get stuck in the locked room because the door is locked.

I think I may have experienced this, but not sure. In one of my saves, Vladislaus Straud died when he got into a locked outdoor area and seemingly couldn't get back out until the sun came up. In that case, his vampire powers may have something to do with the issue.
