[NEEDS SAVES] Sim Gets Fear of the Dark After Being Cured (Patch 1.97.42)

fear of the dark

★★★ Newbie

One of my sims has the trait "fear of the dark". She developed this when she was a child. I have tried everything. Conquering it, physically removing the trait with cheats, and asking the parents for comfort and advice. Nothing works. She even gets scared during the day, which doesn't make sense. I don't know what to do. But it is really annoying how often it happens. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or if it is a bug itself.

Re: Sim Gets Fear of the Dark After Being Cured (Patch 1.97.42)

★★★ Newbie

Hey there, I'm also getting this problem, no mods installed nor have I ever installed them. Cured Fear of the Dark by conquering it, but the moodlet didn't go away. After that, its begun to appear at any time of day while outside, making literally any activity that involves leaving the house a little bit harder to get done.

I've tried the method of adding the trait back and removing it that was detailed in the previous thread, but unfortunately that hasn't worked for me thus far. The patch today doesn't seem to have made any change for this particular bug.

Fear of The Dark locked after cure.

★ Novice

My sim has the Fear of The Dark locked even after I have cured her. How do I fix this? I never had this problem before the most recent update. It's only when she's outside, and she's a sim that loves the outdoors, so this is a problem. If I leave her inside, she gets bored, but if I send her outside she's terrified. I've tried all of the other fixes, I don't know what else to do!

Afraid of the Dark Moodlet

★ Apprentice

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.98.158.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? High School Years, Island Living, Get Famous, Seasons, Cats and Dogs, City Living (Expansion Packs),; Realm of Magic, Vampires (Game Packs); Cool Kitchen, Romantic Garden (Stuff Packs)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? My Sim when child gained the Fear of the Dark Scared moodlet, with a connected Whim telling me to go outdoors while Confident and it's dark outside. I did that a couple of times and while the moodlet disappeared, the Whim would still appear on occasion - and never got properly resolved despite all of my attempts to send him out with the required conditions. He should have that moodlet issue when he grows into a Teen, even when he doesn't have the Trait for Fear of the Dark.
What happens when the bug occurs? There's an Afraid of the Dark Moodlet all the time on my Sim, without a secondary Looming Dread moodlet. This means that when outdoors, the moodlet is stuck to him for 4 hours, and while it can be superseded with other moodlets, this is harder to accomplish when he's at High School. It just refreshes when he goes outdoors, such as for Jogging, and also regardless of time of day.
What do you expect to see? To at least have the Fear of the Dark trait on my Sim so that I can cheat it out in-game without needing to install mods, or for that moodlet to go away when I disable Wants/Fears.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I've come back to the game after exactly a year, and have raised a Newborn to a Young Adult before - never saw either the Top-Notch Toddler Trait bug out (which can at least be cheated in) and these new Fears Whims and such pop up, which I'm assuming are a new addition to the game. I'd like to play without these random small moodlets appearing and ruining experiences (such as my Sim's high school performance being affected because he was Scared during classes), and hopefully without needing to install mods because I've never done so and don't understand how to. Cannot say which expansion is causing this problem because I bought the High School Expansion Pack before I aged him up to Teen. I found threads for this issue but they were for older game versions requesting there be a new thread for bugs that reappear in later patches.

After checking out older solutions to this issue, I tried to equip Fear of the Dark through the traits cheat and attempted to remove it through legitimate (Fear-be-Gone, walking out while Confident) means, and illegitimate (removing the trait through cheats) means. The Looming Dread moodlet is solvable, but Afraid of the Dark is constantly refreshing. Please help.

Sims afraid of the dark after drinking fear-be-gone

★★★ Newbie

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.98.158.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Growing together, cottage living, snowy escapes, eco lifestyle, discover university, island living, get famous, seasons, cats and dogs, city living, get together, get to work, dream home decorator, jungle adventure, parenthood, vampires, dine out, spa day, outdoor retreat, tiny living, my first pet, toddler, fitness, bowling night, vintage glamour, backyard, kids room, romantic garden, movie hangout, spooky, cool kitchen, perfect patio, luxury living.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play as a child sim and have fear of the dark triggered by the monster under the bed. Drink a fear be gone potion, the fear isn't in the sims personality traits but the fear is still included in the moodlets. The fear remains even after aging up to teen and moving households.
What happens when the bug occurs? The sim has a fear of darkness moodlet whenever they leave the home lot even in daylight. Walking around confident doesn't remove the fear.
What do you expect to see? The sims fear to disappear when drinking the potion and to stop triggering during daylight.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I've included a picture of the moodlet and the traits of one of the sims who is affected.

Re: Afraid of the Dark Moodlet

Bug decided to come back today after disappearing. This is really hampering how the game is played, Sim keeps frantically running around wanting to empty her bladder ever so often. She loves the outdoors, runs a farm, this could not have happened to someone worse! Turning off Wants and Fears isn't doing anything, it's on and refreshed during the day, and no amount of trait removal/re-equip is fixing this. Please, please look into it.

Fear of the Dark will not go away

Again with the Fear of the Dark problem...

I've had the child Sim drink the Fear Be Gone and get rid of the fear, but whenever she goes outside- day or night- there is the Scared moodlet again. It's making it impossible for her to progress with her aspiration and it's incredibly frustrating.

I saw this was marked as Fixed... lol.

C'mon EA, can you sort this out now? This is not a new issue.

Marked as Solution for Visibility. This is still an open issue.

@ThisMicrophone The potions seems to be still bugged. It just removes the trait but nothing else.

Try if the following steps work for you.

1. Re-add the trait with the cheat; traits.equip_trait trait_Fear_Dark
2. Wait until you get the fear resolve want.
3. Buy a confidence potion
4. Go outside in the dark and drink it.
5. The fear should resolve for good.

Good Luck
