no sadly it is also happening on residential lots. I even moved my sims but that did nothing to fix the problem. somebody said that it might be because of their fears of fire (they all have that from the first fire) so I am going to try to remove that fear and maybe that will help. thanks for your help

Hey! So I have the Sims 4 on PS4. I have purchased the interior designer pack and some bundle that had my first pet, cats and dogs and the family pack in it as well. (Sorry I know those aren’t the correct names) anyways, FIRES KEEP HAPPENING!!! I’ve bought the fear be gone but literally everytime my sims cook a fire happens. HELP!

Does your sim have a fear of fire?
Are they cooking when they are in a bad mood?
Does the lot have the 'cursed' lot trait?
These are three things which can increase the likelihood of fires

This is a kind of "me too." The thing is, I don't think this has to do with the appliances ONLY. The fires are happening with every stove in the game.
I noticed that my sims were walking away from the appliances as well until I also noticed that there is a timer going when you hover over the appliance. The item is cooking (my thoughts, lending to a bit of realism). But then again, when the sim is using the stoves, they do NOT walk away, but will catch fire regardless of their skillset. The fires happen regardless. My sim has a level 8 cooking skill but has caught fire four times in the past 15 minutes trying to cook the level 2 (?) vanilla cupcakes. Due to the number of fires, I didn't place any of the new items in my current game believing that those were the cause. Basically, I'm finding out NOPE. It's an overall glitch or joke (seeing as my firefighters start dancing instead of putting out fires).
