You may have already figured this out but I just discovered a solution.
Take your Spellcaster to the Magic Realm and befriend one of the Mages.
Under the conversation for magic there is an option to "Request a Glimmerstone".
Who knew?

Can confirm as of today, with brand new, updated save and clean game that while I was testing my controlled experiment with a spellcaster sim taken from the gallery, not only did she not have any spells saved in her spellbook when she should have had at least one, she also had no glimmerstones on her person. All instances of the caster sim that I dropped into my test save all had no glimmerstones given in their personal inventory.
