If you have different eyes in the mermaid form and the human form then the children will only inherit one since human form and mermaid form are linked. This doewsn't happen in vampires because they are not fully linked. If you want them to inherit mermaid eyes, then both forms should use the same eyes, but it could also be because toddlers and children don't have mermaid eyes (this may not be true I can't remember)
